South Palm Beach County Intergroup
H & I Committee Meeting
August 24, 2022
6:45 p.m.
Jason P, Chairman of H&I opened the meeting with the Serenity Prayer.
The purpose of the H & I Steering Committee is to get a system in place to better serve the South Palm Beach County area in taking meetings into Treatment Center and Halfway houses. With the coordination of efforts of the Bridging the Gap Chairs, Telephone Relay and 12 Step Committees, and becoming more streamlined, we feel we can put all these instrumental pieces together to work jointly to helping the next sick and suffering alcoholic and spread the message of recovery. This will also provide more opportunities for AA members to be of service.
The Steering Committee for H & I –will be compromised of:
- Intergroup H & I Chairperson
- Secretary
- Meeting Booker “Bookie:
- Coordinators for the current 11 facilities we serve, with openings for more Coordinators as the program grows
- 2 Representatives for South Country Recovery Residences Association
These terms of the positions are as follows:
- H & I Chairperson – elected in July at the Intergroup Business meeting
- All other positions are elected in January at the H & I Committee meeting, so that there is continuity in H & I throughout the year. This gives the incoming Chair 6 months with the structure intact and 6 months with a new group.
Being that this is the first meeting, volunteers for positions were requested. The following positions for the H&I Steering Committee are filled/open:
- Secretary: Open
- Coordinators: David L & Katie G; One position still open
- Bookie: Thomas
- SCRRA Reps: Corey & Thomas
The function of the Secretary is to take minutes during the meeting and make an official record of what occurred.
The function of the coordinators is to check in with the facilities and meeting chairpersons to ensure that that the meetings are staffed with chairs and that the facility is happy with the service work.
The function of the Bookie is to fill in the schedule with volunteers and check with the Coordinators if there are any issues.
The function on the SCRRA Representatives to attend the SCRRA meeting monthly and report back to the H&I Steering Committee about possible needs of the local halfway houses. These Reps will alternate between the SCRRA meeting and the Intergroup Meeting and provide backup for each other in case one cannot make the SCRRA meeting.
Jason P will be putting into place on the SPBCI website a page that goes directly to H & I – aahelp.net. The page will include volunteer forms, facility request for meeting forms and a live spreadsheet of openings at meetings that we currently host. Telegram, a messaging app that protects members phone numbers from being published will also be utilized to help keep all H & I members in the loop about what is happening, i.e. if someone needs a chairperson to fill in etc.
Jason P has gone to the Steering Committee and H & I Committee meetings of Broward and North Palm Beach to learn more about what systems they have in place as both those Intergroups have a large number of H & I commitments.
Orientations will be held for incoming chairpersons to ensure that the message and format is consistent throughout the community.
A monthly H & I Committee meeting will be held on the 2nd Saturday of the month at 3 p.m. Delray Central House for all those who have H & I Commitments. The next Steering Committee will be meeting will be held on the same day at 2 p.m. (September 10, 2002)
The objective of all these functions is to be as transparent to the body as possible.
